In Loving Memory: Canon Warren Rolle

November, 2022

Cannon Warren Rolle was a dedicated educator who strived to prepare his students to become successful Religious Studies educators.  He greatly impacted both his students and colleagues here at UB as well as in the Anglican Church.


UTEB extends its condolences to his wife Mrs. Thelma Rolle, his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all!

In Loving Memory: Ms. Vivienne Ferguson

November, 2022

Ms. Vivienne Ferguson was a faithful UTEB member, from its early inception up until her retirement in 2011. She was also an outstanding English lecturer that was greatly appreciated for sharp wit and British humour.


UTEB extends its sincere condolences to her family, including her children and grandchildren.

UTEB executives pay a visit to UB’s President Rolland

August 2022

On August 15, 2022, UTEB's executive team paid a visit to UB's new President, Dr. Erik Rolland.

Dr. Ava Thompson appointed as the Secretary-General of  the International Union of  Psychological Science

July, 2022

In July 2022, Dr. Ava Thompson was appointed as the Secretary-General of the International Union of Psychological Science.  In this role, she will manage the administrative and financial operations. She will serve in this capacity until 2026.

On April 28, 2022, UTEB executives from both UB and BTVI paid a visit to the Minister of State, the Hon. Zane Lightbourne. They are pictured here after that meeting.

March, 2022

On Friday March 11, 2022, UTEB held its first official hybrid meeting at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) campus given the recent addition of faculty from this campus  to UTEB's bargaining unit.

Dr. Christopher Curry Appointed as Director of AAMC

December, 2021

Associate Professor Christopher Curry (Department of History) was appointed as the Director of The Antiquities, Monuments & Museum Corporation (AAMC), which is responsible for the management of forts and several national museums in the Bahamas.

Kishan Munroe Book Release

November, 2021

Assistant Professor Kishan Munroe (Department of Visual Art and Design) launched the release of his book entitled Swan Song of the Flamingo  at the Bahamas National Art Gallery. This book investigates the tragic sinking of the HMBS flamingo on May 10, 1980.

In Loving Memory: Dr. Jose Valesquez

July, 2021

Dr. Jose Valesquez was a faithful UTEB member that truly believed in what the union stands for. Moreover, he was an outstanding agricultural economist and statistician that greatly impacted both his students and colleagues here at UB.


UTEB extends its condolences to his wife Suzanne Newbold and his family in Peru. He will truly be missed!


In Loving Memory: Mrs. Anne Lawlor

March, 2021

Mrs Anne Lawlor was an innovative, creative thinker and visionary who played a core role in defining English Studies as a viable programme in College of the Bahamas and then through the transition to a University. Her never flagging hard work and support of all students, faculty and staff have left an indelible mark on all of us. The memories below from former students and colleagues show the depth of our gratitude for the love and care Anne gave all of us. 


Along with English Studies at the University of The Bahamas, UTEB extends its condolences to the Lawlor family. She will be missed!

MLA Prize for Creole Composition

December, 2020

Associate Professor Raymond A. Oenbring (Department of English) received MLA’s 36th Mina P. Shaughnessy Prize along with co-editors Dr. Vivette Milson-Whyte (UWI, Mona) and Dr. Brianne Jaquette (Western Norway University of Applied Sciences) for the book Creole Composition: Academic Writing and Rhetoric in the Anglophone Caribbean, as announced on Dec 14, 2020. The prize is awarded for an outstanding work on language, culture, literature, or literacy with strong application to the teaching of English and was first established by the Modern Language Association of America in 1979.
